I just posted a cluster of videos on Instagram captioned with a note about how I used to spit practically all of Tha Carter III back in high school when I barely spoke the English language. It just occurred to me that the artist we were arguing about in the car, on our way to the desert, was none other than Lil Wayne. How utterly ridiculous is that… You know, that trip I mentioned, planned with the intent to celebrate our wedding, my birthday, as well as a favorable settlement I had been granted by the court, that trip I initiated and paid for, the one which resulted in a dislocated left middle finger and a getaway spent in separate rooms, yep - that’s the one. It was around this time of the year too… I was just taken back to that time, earlier today, thinking of that record. Another thing I noted is that I had recalled the event has having happened around my 30th birthday while it occurred prior to that year. My timelines got switched up in the psychic back and forth and I have to correct that because it was actually a couple of years ago. Not that we did anything to celebrate the occasion when I turned 30 years old. Different but same. I didn’t get a present. Very minimal attention. No thoughtfulness. No love. When I turned 30 I got a birthday wish card with a pre-written note and a signature. By then, he wasn’t even trying and it showed. Will this devil ever get off my back - can he be shaken off completely? Looking forward to the days when I don’t have at least one recurring and prolonged thought about that slice of time in my life - not the sweetest.
